April Bookhaul

These are all the books i bought in April! I buy most of my books from either The Book Depository or Bookworld, but i sometimes buy books from my local bookstore as well. I did pretty well this month because i got Cress, The Hero of Ages and Betrothed all for free from my local bookstore because they are damaged, which i don't really mind because all the spines still look good :) Links to the Goodreads pages for the books i bought are below.

1. Amy & Matthew by Cammie McGovern
2. Gabriel's Inferno  by Sylvain Reynard
3. Gabriel's Redemption by Sylvain Reynard
4.  Gabriel's Rapture by Sylvain Reynard
5. Cress by Marissa Meyer
6. The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
7. Betrothed by Wanda Wiltshire
8. Sweet Little Thing by Renee Carlino

I've already read Amy & Matthew, Gabriel's Inferno and Sweet little thing and i loved all three books! Keep in mind that Gabriel's Inferno and Sweet Little Thing are Both New Adult/Adult books.

Books I am currently reading!

The first book that i'm currently reading is Infinite by Jodi Meadows, the third and final book in the Incarnate trilogy. I am loving this book so far and i think it's going to end up being my favourite. I gave 4 cups of tea to the first two books in this trilogy and i'm hoping this will end up being 5 cups!

The other book i am currently reading is The Summer Garden by Paullina Simons. This is the third book in the Bronze Horseman Trilogy which is an adult historical fiction series set in WW11. I loved both the first two books in this trilogy and gave them both 5 cups of tea. I put this one down because it's quite large (742 pages!) and after reading the first two back-to-back i needed a break from all the angst! I will definitely be finishing this one soon though!

My Top 5 Trilogies!

This is a list of my top five favourite trilogies that are either completed or are going to be this year!

Across The Universe is one of my favourite sci-fi trilogies of all time! The books are set on a spaceship called Godspeed, which has left earth in search of a new home. The main character, Amy is frozen onboard along with both her parents, but is awoken fifty years too soon, why? You'll have to read and find out! This novel is filled with mystery and intrigue with just a hint of romance. I would recommend this trilogy to anyone who enjoys Y/A sci-fi.
Though this trilogy isn't yet complete, I absolutely loved the first two books and i have high hopes for the final of this trilogy! This is a Dystopian Y/A novel about kids with 'super powers'. I highly recommend this trilogy to everyone!
I'm sure everyone on the planet has heard of The Hunger Games! And i'm positive i don't have to tell you what it is about. I just couldn't leave it out of my top 5, because it is one of my all time favourites.
Another trilogy that is wildly popular, The Infernal Devices is a prequel trilogy to The Mortal Instruments series. I actually ended up enjoying this trilogy more that TMI and it was so addictive that i read all three within 4 days! TID is a Y/A fantasy steampunk novel set in 1878.
The Shatter Me trilogy is probably my favourite trilogy ever. I love everything about these books. Tahereh Mafi's writing style is so majestic and unique that i fell in love with this series from the very first page. I really enjoyed the characters in these books as well, especially Warner and Kenji and i have no doubt i'll be re-reading this trilogy over and over again. I recommend this trilogy to everyone! However is it very romance-centred so if you're not into that, maybe this trilogy isn't for you.

Thanks for reading!

Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher

Stolen: A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher
Genre: Contemporary, Y/A

It happened like this. I was stolen from an airport. Taken from everything I knew, everything I was used to. Taken to sand and heat, dirt and danger. And he expected me to love him.

This is my story.

A letter from nowhere.

Stolen: A Letter to My Captor follows the story of 16 year old Gemma, who is kidnapped from Bangkok airport on her way home to the United Kingdom.

‘You saw me before I saw you’

Coming from Australia, I really loved reading a novel set in my own country. It’s not often you find books set in Australia, let alone the Australian Outback. The author’s knowledge of Indigenous Australian culture also added a nice touch to the novel.

I really loved Gemma as a character, she was strong and realistic, and although she grows to understand and even care for Ty, she knows what he did was very wrong. I never grew annoyed by her and I feel that she handled the whole situation exceedingly well, considering what she must have been going through.

‘The people we care for aren't always the one we should’

‘it's hard to hate someone once you understand them’

Ty is the anti-hero of this story. He kidnaps Gemma and forces her to live if the dry and extremely hot Australian Desert. Yet while it is clearly a terrible thing that he has done, you can’t help but feel for Ty, and throughout the course of the novel, grow to love him as well.

Stolen is written in the form of a letter that Gemma has written to Ty. I found this a very unique and interesting concept and felt that it perfectly suited the novel. I love Lucy Christopher’s writing style and if her other novels are anything like this one; I’ll definitely be picking them up!

This story deals with a tough topic (kidnapping) but also touches upon the effects that todays society has on people and how we are all conforming to live a certain way.
As this is something that really interest me, it made the story all the more intriguing and i found Ty's point of view accurate in some ways, despite the drastic measures he resorts to, to achieve his desired way of life.

Overall I highly enjoyed this novel and it has become one of my favourites of all time! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Y/A contemporary novels.

'Right then, and at every moment since you’d left me, all I could think about was you. I wanted you in that apartment. I wanted your arms around me, your face close to mine. I wanted your smell. And I knew I couldn’t—shouldn’t—have it. That’s what I hated most. The uncertainty of you. You’d kidnapped me, put my life in danger … but I loved you, too.'
